CAMCOPTER S-100 drone completes flight demonstration for the U.S. Navy

According to the announcement on the militaryleak website on August 20, 2021] Schiebel Aircraft Company (SAI/Schiebel Group US subsidiary) and Areté Associates have jointly completed the CAMCOPTER S-100 UAV flight test and successfully submitted it to the U.S. Navy Demonstrated the excellent performance and information acquisition capabilities of this unmanned aerial vehicle. The company stated that the CAMCOPTER S-100 platform has a wide range of/good adaptability to operating environments such as land and sea.

The flight test was led by the United States Office of Naval Research (ONR) and was carried out on a commercial ship off the coast of Pensacola, Florida. The demonstration focused on the flight performance of the CAMCOPTER S-100 UAV and Areté Associates. The capability of the Push Broom Laser Imaging Coastal Surveillance (PILLS) radar system. The lidar meets the requirements of lightweight size, weight and power (SWaP), is easy to integrate with the CAMCOPTER S-100 UAV platform, and can effectively support the implementation of coastal and oceanographic surveying and mapping tasks.

The CAMCOPTER S-100 vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) UAV is dual-use for military and civilian purposes. Its vertical take-off and landing feature ensures the redundancy of the platform's take-off and landing environment. The aircraft supports full-time and severe weather operations, and has the ability to fly over the horizon of 200 kilometers (108 nautical miles) across land/sea. The fuselage of the aircraft is made of carbon fiber/titanium materials to ensure strong load capacity and endurance. The maximum ceiling is 5500 meters (18,000 feet). The conventional configuration of the CAMCOPTER S-100 UAV carrying a 34 kg (75 lb) load has a life time of 10 hours, and uses aviation gasoline or JP-5 heavy fuel oil. The high-definition image data obtained by its on-board sensor can be transmitted to the control station in real time .

In addition, CAMCOPTER S-100 UAV can use standard GPS waypoint navigation or manual navigation. In an environment without GPS service, the machine can be manually visualized planning/control by the operator to effectively perform related tasks.
