Schiebel successfully conducts drone search and rescue trials in the Arctic

Together with Andya Space Defense, Schiebel successfully demonstrated the search and rescue capabilities of the CAMCOPTER S-100 drone on the coast guard vessel KV Nordkapp in Norwegian waters.

The purpose of the test is to demonstrate CAMCOPTER S-100's accompanying search and rescue (SAR) and maritime surveillance capabilities under arctic environmental conditions above 75 degrees north latitude.

The one-week experiment was achieved through the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ "Arctic 2030" plan, which aims to maintain Norway’s interests in the far north. Its purpose is to prove that the unmanned aerial system (UAS) is an ideal complement to manned helicopters, greatly enhancing search and rescue operations in this remote part of the world. CAMCOPTER S-100 proved that it can operate in severe weather conditions, in which case a manned helicopter may be more risky.

The UAV system is equipped with a Trakka TC-300 EO/IR sensor, an Overwatch Imaging PT-8N Oceanwatch, a Radionor antenna as an additional data link for video transmission, and an automatic identification system (AIS) receiver.
